quoteclip
find the clip your quote came from. type a line you remember, get the video and the exact timestamp.
what this is
QuoteClip identifies the source of a quote — a movie, TV show, speech, song, or viral video — and finds a clip where the line is actually spoken. The app uses Google's Gemini and the YouTube Data API to identify candidate videos and verify the audio.
what we collect, what we don't
last updated · august 3, 2026
information we collect
- Anonymous account ID. When you first open QuoteClip, an anonymous account is created via Firebase Authentication so we can store your search history and saved clips across sessions without requiring sign-in. No personal information is associated with this anonymous ID.
- Sign-in information (optional). If you choose to sign in with Apple, Google, or email, we store your email address, display name, profile photo URL, and the sign-in providers you've linked. This is used to sync your data across devices.
- Search history. The quotes you search for are stored in your account so they can appear as recents in the app. You can disable history recording or delete entries from within the app.
- Saved items and lists. Clips you save (and any lists you create) are stored in your account.
- Search queries sent to Google's AI. The quotes you search (and any source you add) are sent to Google's Gemini API — a third-party AI service — and the YouTube Data API to identify the source and locate clips. See AI processing & your consent below.
information stored on or accessed from your device
QuoteClip stores, accesses, and collects information directly and indirectly on and from your device, and allows the third parties listed below to do the same — including by placing, accessing, or recognizing cookies, local storage, device identifiers, and similar technologies on your device or browser. Specifically:
- App preferences and local settings. Stored in your device's local app storage so the app remembers your choices between launches: your accent colour and light/dark preference, whether you've seen the welcome and feature-tour screens, your AI-processing consent, whether search history recording is on, any pinned or hidden recents, a locked source, your daily-quiz progress, and whether quote-of-the-day notifications are enabled.
- Authentication session. Firebase Authentication stores a sign-in token and session identifier on your device so you stay signed in.
- Anti-abuse device attestation. Firebase App Check accesses device-integrity signals to confirm requests come from a genuine copy of the app — Apple's App Attest / DeviceCheck on iOS, Google Play Integrity on Android, and reCAPTCHA on the web. reCAPTCHA sets cookies and reads browser storage when QuoteClip is used in a browser.
- Analytics identifier. Our analytics provider (PostHog) generates and stores a random installation identifier on your device, and may buffer pending events in local storage, so we can measure feature usage. It is not an advertising identifier and is not linked to any identity you haven't given us.
- Push notification token. If you enable quote-of-the-day notifications, Firebase Cloud Messaging issues a device-specific push token that we store against your account so we can deliver them. Turning notifications off removes that device's token.
- Subscription state. If you purchase QuoteClip Pro, RevenueCat and the Apple App Store / Google Play store purchase and receipt information on your device to validate and restore your subscription.
- Embedded YouTube player. Clips play inside an embedded YouTube player. YouTube and Google may set and read their own cookies and similar storage on your device through that player, subject to Google's Privacy Policy — including where you are not signed in to YouTube. We do not control or have access to that storage.
what we don't collect
- We don't collect advertising identifiers, and we don't use any of the above for advertising or cross-app tracking.
- We don't collect precise location.
- We don't sell or share your data with third parties for advertising.
- We don't track your activity outside the app, other than as described for the embedded YouTube player above.
third-party services
QuoteClip uses the following third-party services, each of which may store or access information on your device as described above:
- Firebase (Google) — Authentication, Firestore, Cloud Functions, Cloud Messaging, App Check (accounts, data storage, backend processing, push notifications, anti-abuse).
- Gemini API (Google) — Google's AI model, used to identify the source of a quote and verify clips.
- YouTube Data API Services (Google) — to find candidate videos, and the embedded YouTube player used to play them.
- PostHog — product analytics (feature usage and reliability). Disabled in development builds.
- RevenueCat, with the Apple App Store and Google Play — subscription purchases, validation, and restore.
YouTube API Services notice. QuoteClip uses YouTube API Services. By using QuoteClip, you also agree to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service and Google's Privacy Policy. You can review and revoke QuoteClip's access to your data via the Google security settings page.
how long we keep YouTube data
Information we retrieve from YouTube API Services about a video — its title, channel name, thumbnail, and duration — is stored for no longer than 30 calendar days, after which it is automatically deleted. When you open a saved clip whose stored details have been deleted, QuoteClip re-reads them from YouTube at that moment, so what you see always reflects current YouTube data rather than an old copy.
This does not delete the clips you saved: the video you chose, the quote you searched, and your lists are your own records and are kept until you delete them or your account.
AI processing & your consent
To find your clip, the quote you type or speak — and any source you add — is sent to Google's Gemini API, a third-party AI service, along with the YouTube Data API. We ask for your explicit consent in the app, on the welcome screen shown before your first search, and only send this data after you agree.
Google processes this data solely as our service provider, under Google's Privacy Policy and the Gemini API terms, which provide a level of data protection equivalent to this policy. Because QuoteClip uses the paid Gemini API tier, Google does not use your searches to train its models. We never sell your searches or use them for advertising. You can withdraw consent at any time — see your rights below.
your rights
- Delete individual saved clips, lists, and search history entries from within the app.
- Disable search history recording in app settings.
- Withdraw consent for AI processing. Your searches are only sent to Google's Gemini AI when you run a search, so you can stop sharing at any time by simply not searching. You can also delete your stored searches or your entire account, as described here.
- Delete your account and all associated data directly from the app. Open the Profile tab and tap Delete account. This permanently removes your account, saved clips, lists, and search history — the deletion can't be undone.
- If you can't reach the in-app delete option, you can request account deletion by emailing the address below. We action deletion requests within 7 calendar days of receiving them.
children's privacy
QuoteClip is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We'll post the new policy on this page and update the "last updated" date.
the rules of the road
effective · june 12, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the QuoteClip mobile application and related services (the "Service"). By downloading, accessing, or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
the service
QuoteClip helps you find the YouTube video and timestamp where a quote was spoken. You provide a line of dialogue (typed or spoken); the Service uses Google's Gemini AI and the YouTube Data API to identify the likely source, locate candidate videos, and return a matching clip played through YouTube's official embedded player. QuoteClip does not download, host, store, or re-upload video content; it surfaces and links to videos that already exist on YouTube, with attribution to the original channel.
eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your jurisdiction) to use the Service. By using the Service you represent that you meet this requirement.
YouTube API Services
The Service uses YouTube API Services. By using QuoteClip, you also agree to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service. Your use of data retrieved through YouTube API Services is also subject to Google's Privacy Policy. QuoteClip's own handling of your data is described in our Privacy Policy above.
All video content surfaced by the Service remains the property of its respective owners and YouTube. QuoteClip claims no ownership of it and provides it for discovery and playback through YouTube's embedded player only.
accounts
You may use the Service as an anonymous guest or by signing in with Apple, Google, or email. You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your credentials secure. You may delete your account and all associated data at any time from the Profile tab within the app.
subscriptions & billing
QuoteClip offers an optional paid subscription ("Pro") that raises daily search and saving limits. Subscriptions are sold and billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play; payment is charged to your store account at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and you can manage or cancel them in your store account settings. Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable; refund requests are handled by Apple or Google under their policies.
acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the Service to violate any law or the rights of others;
- attempt to access, scrape, download, or extract video content other than through the YouTube player provided, or otherwise circumvent YouTube's or Google's technical or contractual restrictions;
- interfere with, overload, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, its backend, or associated systems;
- reverse engineer or misuse the Service or its API integrations.
AI-generated results
Search results are produced with the help of automated AI systems and may be incomplete or inaccurate. QuoteClip identifies likely matches and does not guarantee that any returned clip is the exact or only source of a quote. You are responsible for evaluating results before relying on them.
disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any quote will be successfully identified.
limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, QuoteClip and its developer will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, revenue, or profits, arising out of or related to your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim will not exceed the amount you paid for the Service in the twelve months before the claim.
termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms or to protect the Service, its users, or third parties. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including ownership, disclaimers, and limitation of liability) will survive.
changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "effective" date above and, where appropriate, through notice in the app. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
